C13 | walton castle & the dip

The Dip occupies one of the most intriguing locations on the Felixstowe coastline. Just offshore lie the remains of Walton Castle, a Roman fort that once stood proudly on the shoreline before centuries of coastal erosion gradually claimed it for the sea.

Today, traces of the fort can still be seen at exceptionally low tides, creating one of the town’s most fascinating historical mysteries. The surrounding area has become a favourite destination for walkers, swimmers, photographers and visitors drawn to the combination of history, wildlife and coastal scenery.

The Dip itself has become a well-known local landmark and provides a unique viewpoint across the changing shoreline. Whether exploring the beach, watching the tides or searching for signs of the lost fort, visitors can experience a part of Felixstowe where history and landscape remain closely connected. Additional panoramas, photography and stories will continue to be added as Felixstowe360 develops.
